Summary
Welcome to my first ever episode of these reveries. Hey, I’m Adrienne Miller and this is my podcast about unschooling, slow living and mindful socially conscious parenting.
I started this show because I wanted to have real conversations about leaving mainstream ways of thinking parenting and living.
I wanted to share my over 10 years of experience as an unschooling mom, that mindset shifts I’ve adopted our unconventional lifestyle, the challenges, breakthroughs, and the day-to-day reality of it all.
I’ll be sharing about leaving the public school system as a teacher and how those years affected my own decision to unschool and embrace a more respectful way of parenting. I’m also creating this show to dive into healing from childhood trauma while being a parent, my life as a mom with ADHD, parenting a child with ADHD and learning to parent myself alongside my kids, I’ll be discussing how I lean into practices that help my anxiety, depression, and see PTSD like minimalism Hooga and a neutral aesthetic, as well as the intense challenges and incredibly rewarding journey of learning to regulate emotions.
And my nervous system and teach my kids the same skills.
This show is really for parents looking for alternatives to traditional schooling and wanting to leave the hustle culture behind for a more authentic and sustainable lifestyle alongside their kids. I’ll be getting into these topics on my own or with other unschooling parents, neurodiverse families and experts in the gentle parenting world.
I also wanted to make a note that the space is inclusive of marginalized communities.
We actively teach anti-racism in our home. We value all genders, orientations, and identities. We protect women’s health rights. I wanted to point this out because so often families in this space leave schools to have more control over what their kids are being taught.
Then I usually find myself on the less popular side of these conversations. I’m non-religious I speak out against any system, whether it be school, religion, sports parenting, et cetera, that uses shame, guilt, punishments, or power to control anyone.
But particularly children, I’m always learning how to be more aware of the privileges I hold and work toward a more intersectional and inclusive space. So that’s really where I’m coming from. Most of my content comes from the context of one of these areas. It’s a lot, I know niching down was not an easy task.
Like most of us I’m a multifaceted and multi-passionate person. So really all of these things packed into the little body, big personality Sagittarius that I am is my niche.
I believe in children and their innate goodness.
I trust in their ability to learn and grow and make decisions for themselves. I believe that parents who want to heal break cycles and create a normal for themselves and their kids on their own terms should be able to do so without sacrificing their own wellbeing.
I’ll be posting each episode as a YouTube video, as well as a podcast episode, and also posting the transcript as a blog post to make sure I capture every type of learning style.
So with all that, it’s my pleasure to invite you to join this community of like-minded homeschooling parents looking to create a more inclusive, authentic, and intentional lifestyle while standing up for rights and freedoms to be enjoyed by all.
